Over the past year Rotary Clubs in the National Capital Region and surrounding area have donated tens of thousands of dollars to local Food Banks and other organizations fighting food insecurity.
Our aim is to help struggling families deal with the effects of the pandemic, job losses and the rising cost of food.
Many clubs support Food Banks on an ongoing basis with additional financial donations and hands-on help with meal preparation.
Post pandemic the inflation rate has risen significantly in Canada and around the world. At the same time the effects of the Covid epidemic linger. This has put a lot of pressure on lower income Canadians. Many have found it difficult to purchase the food needed for their families. At the same time, food banks and other providers of meals for those in need have found it more expensive to purchase extra food items while demand on their services grow.
Rotary International’s “Week of Service”, in the last week of April provided the incentive for Clubs to donate and they certainly rose to the challenge. Rotary was pleased to help such a worthwhile and needy cause.
Going forward addressing food insecurity in our local communities will remain a priority.
